As some of you might know, my wife is from Sydney and we go back there at least once per year. We’ve been considering getting an Australia car. It has to be something that was never sold in the US, and something that can hold surfboards. Of course I’d love a 74 Falcon XB for obvious reasons, but those are stratospherically expensive for something that would get used a few weeks a year at best. My wife is against the newer rides (so a Holden Commodore SS-V Ute is out, even thought that would be awesome).
What do you guys think of this? It’s had the top chopped but I’m not sure I care, and the color seems pretty fun for a beach ride.

Get a Holden Sandman
I see no reason not to buy one of these but at least one reason not to buy anything else (that being that non-Sandman cars aren’t Sandmen.)

what sort of activities do you get up to back in Aus?
were it I, I’d pick something suitable for a bit of camping. Hilux?

Either a Mini Moke or a ute of some kind.
Armstrong Siddeley, Valiant, Willys... or maybe something somebody else suggested.

Holden Crewman! The crew cab pickup for people who want a car. It's like saying "That's not a knoife...THIS is a knoife" to the Subaru Baja.

Ok, here’s something I didn’t know I wanted until now. Crewman Cross.
And wait for it. Yes, HSV did make their own version the Avalanche XUV and Avalanche.

The Sandman van is the top of my personal list. I can’t find a single one for sale on carsales.com.au or cargurus.com.au, but I don’t think most people in AUS sell cars on the internet yet.
Any idea whether you can convert the utes to vans? There are a few of those for sale.

OK I was thinking mostly Holden, Ford, or Alfa but that is intriguing.

Needs to be able to carry 2 surfboards. Light camping duty would be ok to add but I don’t envision sleeping in the outback for weeks (mostly because something would eat me).

That’s more of a second car.
